What is 1.2316 standard steel
1.2316 is an excellent chemical-resistant plastic mold steel. It has excellent corrosion resistance, excellent wear resistance and toughness, good thermal fatigue resistance, uniform material hardness, superior polishing performance, very high surface accuracy after polishing, low impurity content, and stable production time.
It’s worth noting that specific heat treatment processes are often employed to achieve the desired mechanical properties in 1.2316 steel, and the steel’s performance can vary based on the manufacturing and heat treatment processes used.
1.2316 steel Chemical composition
C(%) | 0.33-0.45 | Si(%) | ≤1.00 | Mn(%) | ≤1.00 | P(%) | ≤0.030 |
S(%) | ≤0.030 | Cr(%) | 15.50-17.50 | Mo (%) | 0.80-1.30 | Ni(%) | ≤1.00 |
What is the difference between 1.2316 and other tool steels?
1.2316 is different from other tool steels because it has high corrosion resistance. Making it suitable for plastic molding applications that involve chemically aggressive plastics like PVC. Unlike 1.2083, which has lower corrosion resistance and polishability, 1.2316 has a higher chromium content that contributes to its hardness and wear resistance. However, 1.2316 is not as tough or impact-resistant as some other tool steels, such as 1.2344 or 1.2379. Therefore, it is best suited for applications that require high surface quality and durability. But not high mechanical strength or shock resistance.

Customer Stories
Recently, we received an inquiry from Bill in Malaysia, seeking information on the alloy steel grade 1.2316. After providing a detailed quote, Bill expressed concerns about the authenticity of the material. At OTAI, we understand the importance of transparency and quality assurance.
In response, we promptly supplied Robin with the comprehensive Material Test Certificate (MTC) for our 1.2316 standard steel, assuring him of its authenticity. We encouraged Bill to compare our MTC with alternatives in the market. Emphasizing the importance of not just competitive pricing but also the assurance of genuine quality.
