Cr12MoV steel has high hardenability. The cross section is 300~400mm. It can be completely hardened. It can still maintain good hardness and wear resistance at 300~400℃.
Cr12MoV can be used to make a variety of molds and tools with large cross-sections, complex shapes and withstanding large impact loads. It is characterized by high wear resistance, hardenability, micro-deformation, high thermal stability, and high bending strength. It is second only to high-speed steel. And Cr12MoV is an important material for a die, cold heading. The consumption ranks first among cold-worked die steels.
In fact, the Chinese market is a mixed and confused. Some unreliable suppliers may be in order to earn high profits, completely disregard and did not consider for the customers at all. And deceive customers with the bad quality. These dishonest behaviors not only disrupt the market. At the meanwhile, it has brought a serious impact on themselves, especially on the end user.
The consequences of purchasing these crudely fabricated Cr12MoV cold work tool steel for end-user are:
1) The microstructure of inferior Cr12MoV die steel is severely segregated. Causes poor processing performance, often encountered difficulties in drilling and tapping.
2) The heat treatment has a large amount of deformation, a high risk of cracking and bending occurs from time to time. It cannot guarantee the stability of the mold size, affect the appearance and even die scrap.
3) The scrap steel refurbished Cr12MoV mold steel has a lot of impurities. It causes the mold to have poor red hardness at high temperatures. The mold hardness decreases quickly, and the knife edge is easily worn.
4) The purity of the mold steel is poor, and there are many non-metallic inclusions. It results in poor impact toughness of the mold, and the knife edge is easy to collapse and drop.
