OTAI SPECIAL STEEL is a 1.2746 tool steel stockist and supplier from China. more than 25 years of experience in 1.2746 steel round bar, flat bar, and plate supply.

1.2746 steel is a type of high-alloy tool steel that offers excellent hardness, wear resistance, and toughness. Manufacturers use it widely to produce tools and dies that need to perform exceptionally well under severe conditions.

With its high nickel content, this material offers a very good combination of through hardenability and toughness. Additional alloying with vanadium and molybdenum achieves higher resistance to abrasive wear. This material is used where high resistance to impact and shock loads is required and the wear resistance of a 1.2767 material is insufficient. The material is used in applications such as highly stressed industrial knives in the recycling industry.

1.2746 alloy steel properties are as below:

Form of Supply

1.2746 alloy steel, we can supply the round bar, steel flat bar, plate, hexagonal steel bar, and steel square block. Round bar can be sawn to your required lengths as one-offs or multiple-cut pieces. Rectangular pieces can be sawn from flat bars or plates to your specific sizes. Ground tool steel bar can be supplied, providing a quality precision finished bar to tight tolerances.

Chemical composition

C(%) 0.40~0.50 Si(%) 0.20~0.30 Mn(%) 0.65~0.85 Ni(%) 3.50~4.30
S(%) ≤0.350  Cr(%) 1.45~1.55 Mo (%) 0.65~0.85 V(%) 0.45~0.55

Mechanical Properties

  • Physical properties (average values) at ambient temperature

modulus of elasticity [10³x N/mm²]: 210

Density [g/cm³]: 7.86

  • Soft Annealing

Heat to 610-850°C, cool slowly in the furnace. This will produce a maximum Brinell hardness of 295.

  • Stress Relieving

Stress relieving to remove machining stresses should be carried out by heating to approx. 650℃, holding for 1-2 hours at heat, followed by air cooling. This operation is performed to reduce distortion during heat treatment.

  • Hardening

Harden from a temperature of 880-910°C followed by air or oil quenching or warm bath quenching 180-220°C. Hardness after quenching is 56 HRC.

Applications
  • Precision tools
  • Cutting tools
  • Dies and molds
  • High-load machinery components
