AISI1045 is a medium carbon, medium tensile steel supplied as forged or normalized. This steel shows reasonable strength and toughness. C1045 will through harden to 2.5” (63mm) with a tensile strength of 66-120 Ksi (620-850 MPa)

1045 also know as EN8 steel.  it belongs to Unalloyed medium carbon steel grade. Furthermore, 1045 is a good strengh steel, have good tensile and easy to heat treatment.  And it is widely use to shafts, pins, studs, keys, bearing and so on. Moreover, it equivalent  to AISI 1045 steel, WN-r 1.1191, JIS S45C G4051, DIN CK45, GB 45#.

1045 steel forging

At first, slowly heat to 1050°C for forging, no forged below in 850 °C

Heat treatment 1045 medium carbon steel

  •  Normalizing:  at 820 ~ 870°C
  •  Annealing: Heat to 810 °C， then cool in air slowly
  •  Heat treatment and quenching :  820 ~ 870°C , water cooling
  •  Heat treatment / tempering : 550 ~ 650  °C
  • Delivery Condition: normalized; annealing; tempering

Machanical Properties and physical property of 1045

  • mechanical properties:  ≥|σb/MPa:    570；—；690;  ≥|σs/MPa:    345；—；490; ≥|δ(％):    20；—；17
  • Hardness:  normalized, 167～229 HBS; Annealing, 137～170 HBS；Tempering 201～269 HBS;
  •  Density : 7.85 kg/m3
