Martensitic stainless steel is intended for thermal improvement, showing high mechanical properties – strength, ductility, and machinability, while maintaining sufficient corrosion resistance.

1.4021 steel is a suitable grade for work in steam environments, in low concentrations of inorganic acids, diluents, clean water, and steam at a suitably treated surface. It can also be classified as a heat-resistant grade up to 825 degrees. Shows resistance to gases containing sulfur compounds and hot steam. Stable and appropriately high mechanical properties are maintained in the operating temperature range of 475 – 500. Above the early-mentioned temperature, the creep limit is negligible, only the time resistance is relatively high.

The grade is used for the production of bolts at elevated temperatures, turbine blades, knives, decoration, surgical instruments, bushings, valve seats, scrapers, blades, ramparts, checks, springs, machine parts, molds for casting under pressure, and the pins exposed to light loads in the automotive, petrochemical, industrial hydraulics and energy industries.

Form of Supply

1.4021 steel, we can supply the round bar, flat bar, plate, hexagonal steel bar, and steel square block. Round bars can be sawn to your required lengths as one-offs or multiple-cut pieces. Rectangular pieces can be sawn from flat bars or plates to your specific sizes. Ground tool steel bar can be supplied, providing a quality precision finished bar to tight tolerances.

Heat and plastic treatment of 1.4021

  • Annealing at a temperature of 745 – 825 ℃ with cooling in air
  • Delivery condition +QT650 – Hardening in 950 – 1010℃ with cooling in oil or air, tempering at 700 – 780℃
  • Delivery condition +QT700 – Hardening in 950 – 1050℃ with cooling in oil or air, tempering at 650 – 750℃
  • Delivery condition +QT750 – Hardening in 950 – 1010℃ with cooling in oil or air, tempering at 620 – 700℃
  • Delivery condition +QT800 – Hardening in 950 – 1050℃ with cooling in oil or air, tempering at 600 – 700℃
  • Rolling and forging at a temperature of 1100 – 800 ℃
