The  steel material for mold is too much, how to choose one satisfied your demand? I want to talk about it with you today .hope it is helpful to you.

steel material for mold

The commonly used  steel material for mold can be divided into 4 kinds

1Sweden standard S136、8407、DF-2

2American standard 420 、H13、P20、D2

3Japan standard SKD61、DC53、NAK80、SKD11、SKH-9

4 German standard 1.2379、1.2083、1.2316、1.2344

According to the different requirement, you can pick the steel material for mold fits for you.

S136, 1.2316, 420 and other mold steels are generally selected for highly corrosive plastics, and S136, 1.2316, 420, SKD61, NAK80, PAK90, OT718, etc. can be selected for weakly corrosive plastics. The appearance requirements of the product also have a great impact on the choice of mold materials. Transparent parts and products that require mirror polishing of the surface. The materials available are S136, 1.2316, OT718, NAK80, PAK90, 420. Molds with high transparency requirements should be selected. S136, followed by 420.

300,000 to 500,000 molds use more pre-hardened materials, such as S136H, 1.2316H, OT718H, 1.2083H, etc. P20, OT718, 738, OT618, 1.2311, 1.2711, etc. are used for molds with less than 300,000 times. For ultra-low requirements of the mold can consider using S50C, 45 # steel directly on the mold blank to make the cavity.

Cold work dies steel is mainly used to make molds for press forming of workpieces in a cold state. Such as cold punching die, cold stamping die, cold deep drawing dies, embossing die, cold extrusion die, thread pressing die and powder pressing die. The range of cold-work dies steel is very wide, from various carbon tool steel, alloy tool steel, high-speed steel to powder high-speed steel and powder high alloy mold steel.

Hot work dies steel is mainly used to make molds for pressure processing of workpieces under high-temperature conditions. Such as hot forging dies, hot extrusion dies, die casting dies, hot upset dies, etc. Commonly used hot work die steels are: medium and high carbon alloy die steels with alloy elements such as Cr, W, Mo, V added.for special requirements of hot work die steels, sometimes high alloy austenitic heat resistant die steels are used.

Aluminum alloy die-casting molds have higher requirements for materials. Die steel should be selected according to specific mold design requirements. Die-casting molds have high requirements for heat treatment technology. When selecting reliable materials, they must also fully consider heat treatment. The preferred steel is 8418, H13, SKD61, 8407, etc.
