H13 application –H13 tool steels are suitable for forming extrusion dies.
H13 steel is widely used, mainly used in inserts, cores, and cavities for die casting dies, die casting shot sleeves, hot forging dies, extrusion dies, etc.
Because of its excellent combination of high toughness and resistance to thermal fatigue cracking (also known as heat checking) H13 is used for more hot work tooling applications than any other tool steel.
H13 Tool Steel is a versatile chromium-molybdenum hot work steel that is widely used in hot work and cold work tooling applications. The hot hardness (hot strength) of H13 resists thermal fatigue cracking which occurs as a result of cyclic heating and cooling cycles in hot work tooling applications. Because of its excellent combination of high toughness and resistance to thermal fatigue cracking (also known as heat checking) H13 is used for more hot work tooling applications than any other tool steel.

Characteristic
H13 steel is the most widely used and most representative hot work die steel. Its main characteristics are as below:
(1) has high hardenability and high toughness;
(2) Excellent resistance to thermal cracking, which can be water-cooled in the workplace;
(3) It has medium abrasion resistance, and can also be used to improve the surface hardness of carburizing or nitriding process, but slightly reduce the resistance to thermal cracking;
(4) Because of its low carbon content, the secondary hardening ability in tempering is poor;
(5) It has softening resistance at higher temperatures, but the hardness is higher than 540 °C (1000 °F), and the hardness is rapidly decreased (ie, the working temperature is 540 °C);
Because of its high toughness and very good stability in heat treatment, H13 is also used in a variety of cold work tooling applications. In these applications, H13 provides better hardenability (through hardening in large section thicknesses) and better wear resistance than common alloy steels such as 4140.
H13 Application
Inserts, cores, and cavities for die casting dies, die casting shot sleeves, hot forging dies, extrusion dies, and plastic mold cavities and components that require high toughness and excellent polishability.
