According to different Usage :
it is classified as generalhigh speed steels and high performance high speed steel.
General high speed steel: Carbon chemical composition : 0.7%-0.9%, it is also named For medium thermal stability high – speed steel according to the heat resistance . it is widely used in the manufacture of various complex cutting tools because of its good thermal stability and cutting performance.
The HSS is very famous by the cutting tooling for cutting those structural steel and cast ingot which hardness below 250-280HB, The Cutting speed is not too high, cutting ordinary steel should not be higher than 40-60m/min.
According to the difference of Chemical composition :
it is divided into: tungsten(W)HSS and WMo high speed steel
W HSS steel( Tungsten): W18Cr4V (referred to as W18),Chemical W18%, Cr4%, V1%,
High temperature hardness at 600℃ is 48.5HRC, which be used to manufacture a variety of complex tools.
Advantages: Low Thermal tendency , Good wear resistance, Plastic deformation resistance.
Weakness: strength and toughness is not enough to do large section tool, thermoplastic difference.Because the shortcomings, and the market price of tungsten is too expensive,and many countries won’t use the high W HSS material .
