In Germany it is name 1.2379 steel , in China it is named Cr12MoV, in America it is D2. It is named in SKD11 in Japan. Quenching temperature is about 1025 degrees Celsius, generally high temperature tempering to HRC56-62 is recommended.
Our customer purchased 1.2379 steel from another supplier before. He met the cracked quality problems when his end buyer used. So he was planning to find a new supplier to check the quality and ask for the main reason cause. Finally he found us OTAI Special Steel by google search.
In theory, 1.2379 steel is a universal metal stamping die steel. It can achieve high hardness after heat treatment. It has a certain abrasion resistance and has small heat treatment deformation. It is mainly used for all single punch dies, continuous punching dies for thin materials. It also could be for punching die templates with a punching speed of less than 200 times. The essence of 1.2379 steel is high-carbon high-chromium cold-working die steel. The advantage of high-carbon steel is that it can easily reach high hardness after heat treatment and has good wear resistance. The disadvantage is that it is easy to form carbide aggregation. It is resulting in extremely high local hardness. And the uneven toughness of 1.2379 steel is naturally poor. Therefore during use, it is often found to be easily cracked.
Many people think that steel material is a standard product, and it is right to choose a cheap price one for the steel grade. But during using it, and found the mold is not wear-resistant. And it is easily crushed and the knife edge is easy to round. Sometimes the knife edge is easy to crack.

4. High-quality 1.2379 steel, using outdoor refining and vacuum degassing. It is with high purity and uniform structure.
