34CrNiMo6 Round bar

34CrNiMo6 Round Bar and Seamless Pipe  is an important alloy engineering steel grade as per BS EN 10083-3:2006. 34CrNim06 steel has high strength, high toughness and good hardenability. EN / DIN 34CrNiMo6 alloy steel has the stability of resistance to overheating, but the white sensitivity of 34CrNiM06 is high. It also has the temper brittleness, so the weldability of 34CrNiMo6 material is poor. The steel 34CrNiMo6 needs the high temperature preheating before welding in order to eliminate the stress after welding processing.

34CrNiMo6 Steel,

34CrNiMo6 Round Bar and Seamless Pipe is used to make tools which demands good plasticity and high strength. It is usually selected to make the big size and important parts, such as heavy machinery axle, turbine shaft blade, high load of transmission parts, fasteners, crank shafts, gears, as well as heavily loaded parts for motor construction etc.

34CrNiMo6 Round Bar and Seamless Pipe Otai Special Steel is reliable to supply engineering 34CrNiMo6 steels / 1.6582 engineering alloy steels. Please tell us your detailed requirements and have the best offer soon.

34CrNiMo6 Round Bar and Seamless Pipe same as 4340 is a medium carbon, low alloy steel known for its toughness and strength in relatively large sections. AISI 4340 is also one kind of nickel chromium molybdenum steels. 4340 alloy steel is generally supplied hardened and tempered in the tensile range of 930 – 1080 Mpa. Pre hardened and tempered 4340 steels can be further surface hardened by flame or induction hardening and by nitriding. The 4340 steel has good shock and impact resistance as well as wear and abrasion resistance in the hardened condition. AISI 4340 steel properties offer good ductility in the annealed condition, allowing it to be bent or formed. Fusion and resistance welding is also possible with our 4340 alloy steel. ASTM 4340 material is often utilized where other alloy steels do not have the hardenability to give the strength required. For highly stressed parts it is excellent choice. AISI 4340 alloy steel can also be machined by all customary methods.

D2 1.2379 SKD11-chapter 7

D2 1.2379 SKD11

D2 die steel

D2 1.2379 SKD11

PHYSICAL PROPERTIES

  • Density: 0.278 lb/in3 (7695 kg/m3)
  • Specific Gravity: 7.70
  • Modulus of Elasticity: 30 x 106 psi (207GPa)
  • Machinability: 50-60% of a 1% carbon steel

Preheating: To minimize distortion and stresses in large or complex tools use a double preheat. Heat at a rate not exceeding 400°F per hour (222°C per hour) to 1150-1250°F (621-677°C) equalize, then heat to 1400-1450°F (760-788°C). For normal tools, use only the second temperature range as a single preheating treatment.

Austenitizing (High Heat): Heat slowly from the preheat. Furnace or Salt: 1850-1875°F (1010-1024°C).

Quenching: Air or pressurized gas to 150-125ºF (66-51ºC). Sizes up to 4 inches (101.6 mm) in thickness will through harden when air cooled from 1575ºF (857ºC). Sizes up to 6 inches (152.4 mm) in thickness will through harden when air cooled from 1625ºF (885ºC).

Tempering: Temper immediately after quenching. Hold at temperature for 1 hour per inch (25.4 mm) of thickness, 2 hours minimum, then air cool to ambient temperature. The typical tempering range is 350 to 400ºF (177 to 204ºC).

For maximum wear resistance, temper between 300-350°F (149-177°C) for a hardness of 62-64 HRC. For the optimal balance between wear resistance and toughness, temper between 500-550°F (260-288°C). This will produce 58-60 HRC.

For maximum toughness, double temper, 2 hours plus 2 hours, at temperatures above 950°F (510°C). This will produce hardness of less than 58 HRC.

To minimize internal stresses in cross sections greater than 6 inches (152.4 mm) and to improve stability in tools that will be EDM’d after heat treatment, soaking times of 4 to 6 hours at the tempering temperature below 950°F (510°C) are strongly recommended.

Annealing: Annealing must be performed after hot working and before re-hardening. Heat at a rate not exceeding 400°F per hour (222°C per hour) to 1600-1650°F (871-899°C), and hold at temperature for 1 hour per inch (25.4mm) of maximum thickness; 2 hours minimum. Then cool slowly with the furnace at a rate not exceeding 50°F per hour (28°C per hour) to 1000°F (538°C). Continue cooling to ambient temperature in the furnace or in air. The resultant hardness should be a maximum of 255 HBW.

D2 tooling steel -Chapter 6

D2 tooling steel -Chapter 6

D2 die steel
CHAPTER 6 DOES D2 STEEL BENEFIT FROM CRYO TREATMENT?

Cryo treatment is subjecting semi-finished blades to temperatures as low as -300°F for a specified time. Bob Dozier doesn’t use cryo treatment for his knives, while other makers swear by it. I have seen evidence that some steels subjected to specific heat treatment procedures benefit markedly from cryo treatment. But the benefits are not uniform for all steels, and cryo treatment temperatures and soak times do vary. As with all other aspects of knifemaking, cryo treatment results vary with different application methodologies.

IS D2 DIFFICULT TO SHARPEN?

There is no definitive yes or no for this question. I don’t find Charles Allen’s Diamond Blade knives, which Rockwell test at 66-68, any more difficult to sharpen than his Knives of Alaska blades that Rockwell at 58-60. I have found D2 knives that were much more resistant to abrasion from even diamond hones. But I have found D2-bladed knives from the same manufacturer that produced the most difficult to sharpen examples. Individual results vary even within the same brand.

SO, THEN, WHAT KIND OF KNIFE CAN D2 STEEL REALLY MAKE?

There is something for everyone, and I am going to let each knife enthusiast discover what suits him or her best. For me, that’s the fun part. I will tell you that, for my knife applications, I usually carry more than one knife, and as often as not, one of those knives has a D2 blade, while the second doesn’t.

Which D2-bladed knife I carry depends on the circumstances. If there is one knife that does all things equally well for all applications, I haven’t found it — but I will keep looking. If nothing else, it provides my loved ones with the certain knowledge of one thing — I will always appreciate getting more knives on special occasions.

What kind of knife can you get with D2 steel? Just about any type ranging from Dawayne Batten’s handmade spring-back gentleman’s folders (top and bottom) to Microtech’s hard-use tactical fixed-blade Currahee model (center). Enjoy making your choice.

I conclude by paraphrasing the late Butch Winter. There are no bad D2 knives, although some may suit certain applications better than others. You decide for yourself which D2 knife suits your needs best. I should warn you that I have been unable to stop with just one.

Why is the special alloy steel expensive?

Everyone also knows that the price of special alloy steel is more expensive, but if we know this, we will not feel expensive. The steel industry, upstream of the industry’s supply chain, is iron ore, coke, non-ferrous metals, natural gas, etc. These have profoundly affected the pricing of steel. However, to explore the price of special steel more specifically, the following factors may be found.

special alloy steel

I am an employee of Otai Special Steel Co Ltd, we mainly sell special alloy steel.so what is special alloy steel? special alloy steel refers to steels with special chemical composition, produced by special processes, with special structure and properties, and can meet special needs.

However, to explore the price of special steel more specifically, the following factors may be found.

mainly reason

1 raw material

why special alloy steel is called “special” steel, the reason is that its composition differs from ordinary steel, and one or several precious metal elements are added, such as molybdenum, nickel, chromium, titanium, cobalt, and so on.

2 production process

Ordinary smelting methods can be used for ordinary steels. Due to the harsh service environment, special steels have high requirements for material properties. To achieve the purpose of corrosion resistance, wear resistance, high-temperature resistance, impact resistance, etc. special melting method must be applied in. In these methods, equipment is complicated and expensive, and the energy consumption is large.

_DSC1052

3 Processing cost

The smelting process is the processing process, casting, forging, piercing, etc., each additional production pass is a cost increase. Processing cost plus material loss, the price goes up.

4 cost of capital

End-user requirements are usually small batches, multiple varieties, and multiple specifications, so for distributors, inventory materials can only be sold slowly.

5 Supply and demand

Because of the special nature of the special steel material, the seller is very strong. If special steel, there are only one or two suppliers worldwide, the price will certainly not be cheap.

The above factors generally determine the pricing of special alloy steel in the market. Therefore, the price of special steel is expensive, You cannot simply think it is the problem of the supplier. I think customers should care about the quality of special steel, rather than only looking at the price.

4140

Today,a peer who is have similar business as ours,he brought a customer from other city, for checking our 42CrMo4 plate.

They mean to check our 42CrMo4 plate,This company specializes in helping Guangzhou Automobile Factory equipment maintenance, all of their equipment comes from Japan.Previously, this customer purchased it locally ,while found that the materials did not meet the requirements.

Later, the customer took it to the inspection company and found that it was false. This customer is afraid of being deceived this time,so they drove 200kilometers to check our 42CrMo4 plate. At that time, the customers were very shocked ,when they walked into our warehouse. they saw that there are so many 42CrMo4 plates in our warehouse; and there are two delivery statuses. One is American standard 4140 pre-hardened, and the other is national standard 42CrMo4.

But this customer asked how can we prove that this material is true, we took out our testing equipment spectrometer immediately ,and showed the chemical composition.Because this customer has never seen a spectrometer before. He said that your company has such advanced testing equipment. I highly appreciate the quality of our company.

At last,We talked a lot about the chaos in the market,he told me it’s been cheated easily in steel market, most of the materials he couldn’t find before ,he search it on the Internet.but the result was terrible,as the 42Crmo4 plate he got was fake, that made him spend a lot of unjust money and delay production, fined by customers many times,He said that sometimes he felt particularly helpless, before he left,he said it’s so worth to drive 200 kilometers to come here.he said it’s hard to find a good tool steel company on internet, but this time,he thought he had found a good one,and so suitable for his company, and from now on,any kind of tool steel he need will contact us.and we can purchase for him.

How to choose cold work steel mould?

Cold work steel mould is mainly used in the manufacture of blanking dies, stamping dies, cold extrusion dies and tensile dies. The main performance requirements for cold work steel mould are anti-wear performance, anti-bounce angle performance, high-temperature hardness stabilization ability, and good processability.

steel mould

Common cold work steel mould currently on the market are as follows.
Low alloy cold work die steel, its representative models are: 1.2510, DF2, O1. The characteristics of this type of steel are: abrasion resistance, high temperature hardness stability is poor, but resistance to jumping angle is better. Because of its low cost, it is widely used in the production of cold-working molds with small batches. Such as thin-material single-stroke dies.
High-carbon high-chromium cold-working die steel. This steel type is the most common steel type in the market, also known as chrome steel series.Representative models are: Cr12, Cr12MoV, SKD11, D2. The characteristics of this type of steel are: wear resistance, high temperature and hardness stability. Due to the high nitrogen content, the steel structure after heat treatment contains a large amount of eutectic carbides, so the toughness is poor, that is, the anti-bounce angle performance is poor. It is widely used in cold-working molds with large production batches, which require high wear resistance but are lightly impacted. Such as: continuous punching die, punching die with low hardness.
High toughness and high wear resistance cold work steel mould. Because it is with excellent performance in all aspects. This steel has been collectively referred to as the universal cold work die steel in the market. The representative model is DC53. The characteristics of this type of steel are: the abrasion resistance is twice that of SKD11, the high-temperature hardness stability is stable, and the toughness is also twice that of SKD11, which means that it has good anti-bounce angle performance. It is mainly used for some cold work dies such as cold heading dies. Thick plate punching dies require both good wear resistance and high toughness. Such as: high-speed stamping dies, stainless steel stamping dies, stretching dies.

In short, different raw materials of cold work steel mould have different performance requirements.  But now the cold-work die steel market is crudely manufactured and fake and inferior. There are 5-7 quality grades of the same model. When purchasing cold-work die steel, it is very important to choose a reliable supplier. OTAI Special steel exported the special steel to more than 30 countries all over the world, and they are passed the standard of America, Germany and Japan. We are the very valuable and trustable supplier who supplied for the Thyssen Krupp and Chinese ordnance industry group.

Difference between SKD11 and D2 material?

SKD11 and D2 material originally belonged to high-carbon high-chromium cold-working die steel. It has good abrasion resistance and heat treatment micro deformation characteristics. Its heat treatment hardness is HRC59-61.

D2 material

What are the differences between SKD11 and D2 material? Many people think that they are the same material. In Cold work die steel Cr12MoV is named for the so called “universal steel”. When you purchase Cr12MoV, SKD11, D2, some suppliers use commercial Cr12MoV instead and sell it to you at a lower price. When you use it, you find that Cr12MoV, SKD11, D2 these three materials have the same performance. You might think that there is no difference between SKD11 and D2 material.

The differences between them are as follows:
The place of birth is different. SKD11 is the general name of the Japanese Ministry of Industry. D2 material is the American mold steel grade, and the alloy composition is Cr12Mo1V1. However, the composition of SKD11 alloy produced in China is lower than the D2 material standard.
The resistance to high temperature softening is different. When high heat is generated by high-speed stamping, the hardness of SKD11 decreases faster. And the punch is more likely to be worn. For high-speed stamping dies, the wear resistance of D2 material is about twice than that of SKD11.
Abrasion resistance is different. Due to the different vanadium V content of the wear-resistant zinc alloy, D2 has better wear resistance than SKD11.
The hardenability is different. The hardenability of D2 material is higher than SKD11. D2 mold steel for large molds has more uniform core hardness and surface hardness.

OTAI company has maintained no quality incident complaints for 8 years continuously, and the customers repeat order rate is exceeds 85%. We supplied a lot of D2 material to different counties in different shapes, say flat bar, round bar and hexagon. We committed to being responsible for each order, and solving customer problems in the first time.
