Main features

H13 steel is the most widely used and representative hot work die steel. Its main characteristics are:

(1) H13 has high hardenability and high toughness;

(2) Excellent thermal crack resistance, which can be water cooled in the workplace;

(3) With medium wear resistance, carburizing or nitriding processes can also be used to increase its surface hardness, but the heat crack resistance should be slightly reduced;

(4) Due to its low carbon content, the secondary hardening ability is poor in tempering;

(5) H13  has anti-softening ability at higher temperatures, but the hardness decreases rapidly when the use temperature is higher than 540 ° C (1000 ° F).

(6) H13 hasSmall deformation during heat treatment;

(7)H13  has Medium and high machinability;

(8) H13 has Medium decarburization resistance.

Even more remarkable is that it can also be used to make important components in the aviation industry.

Types of carbon steel

carbon steel is an iron-carbon alloy containing less than 2.11% carbon and containing a small amount of silicon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur and other impurity elements. The carbon content of industrial carbon steel is generally 0.05% to 1.35%.

carbon steel

As we know, there are many types of steel, let’s talk about carbon steel today. Can you divide the types of carbon steel? Otai will give you the answer.OTAI Steel specialized in the steel industry for over 20 years. OTAI export tool steel to more than 30 countries includes Europe, North America, South American, Middle East, and Asia. OTAI is stable and reliable tool steel supplier for Fortune 500 companies at home and abroad,

Carbon steel is an iron-carbon alloy containing less than 2.11% carbon and containing a small amount of silicon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur and other impurity elements. The carbon content of industrial carbon steel is generally 0.05% to 1.35%.

The performance of carbon  cable steel is mainly determined by the carbon content. When the carbon content increases, the strength, and hardness of the steel increase, however, the plasticity, toughness and weldability decrease. Compared with other steels, carbon steel has the earliest use, low cost, a wide range of performance, and the largest amount of use. Suitable for water, steam, air, hydrogen, ammonia, nitrogen and petroleum products with a nominal pressure PN≤32.0MPA and a temperature of -30-425 ℃.

Among the various types of steel, carbon structural steel has the highest output, a wide range of uses, and the lowest price. It has appropriate strength, good plasticity, toughness, process performance, and processing performance. , Engineering, grooves, angles, etc.), wire and profiled materials, used to manufacture building engineering structures such as factory buildings, bridges, and ships, generally used directly in the hot rolled state.

Classification of  carbon steel

1. According to the mass percentage of carbon:

  • Low carbon steel (C: ≤0.25%)
  • Medium carbon steel (C: 0.25% ≤C≤0.6%)
  • High carbon steel (C:> 0.6%)

2. According to the quality of the steel (mainly the content of impurities sulfur and phosphorus):

Ordinary carbon cable steel (S s0.055%, P≤0.045%)

Advanced quality carbon cable steel (S≤0.040%, P≤0.040%)

High- quality carbon cable steel (S≤0.030%, P≤0.035%)

3 .According to the purpose.

Carbon structural steel:mainly used for bridges, ships, building components, machine parts, etc. Carbon content-generally of less than 0.7%.

Ordinary carbon structural steel is divided into three categories: Class A steel is a steel that guarantees mechanical properties; Class B steel is a steel that guarantees chemical composition; Special steel is Steel that guarantees mechanical properties and chemical composition.

Carbon tool steel: mainly used for cutting tools, molds, measuring tools, etc. This type of steel is generally high carbon steel.

The Applaction and Selection of HSS material (2)–Cutting tools

The quality of tooling  material(HSS material  or Alloy steel ) is the basic factor, which affects the machining surface quality, cutting efficiency and lifecycle of  tools.  The cutting part of the tools responsible for cutting work directly of tools .it is so important to choose the tool material in reasonable  .

High speed Steel 5_1
  • High hardness and wear resistance

Hardness is a basic characteristic of tool material (HSS material) .The hardness of the cutting tool must be greater than the cutting material .The hardness of cutting edge used in cutting metal is generally above 60HRC.Wear resistance is the ability of a HSS material to resist wear and tear.

  • High heat resistance (thermal stability)

Heat resistance is the main indicator of tool materia’sl (HSS material or alloy steel ) cutting performance. It refers to the tool material under high temperature conditions still maintain a certain hardness, wear resistance, strength and toughness . The cutting tool material should also have the ability to resist oxidation at high temperature ,resist bonding and diffusion. So the cutting tool material should have good chemical stability.

  • Good thermophysical property and thermal shock property

The better the thermal conductivity of the tool material, the more easily the cutting heat dissipates from the cutting area which helps to reduce the cutting temperature. In intermittent cutting or using cutting fluid. The tool is often subjected to a large thermal shock (temperature changes dramatically), resulting in cracks in the tool leading to fracture.

  • Good process performance

In order to facilitate the manufacture of the tool, the tool material (HSS material and Alloy steel ) is required to have good process performance. Such as forging performance, heat treatment performance, high temperature plastic deformation performance, grinding performance.

  • Economy

Economy is one of the important indicators of cutting tool material.  Although the cost of high-quality cutting tool material is very high, its long life-cycle, the cost allocated to each part is not necessarily very high. Therefore in the selection of cutting tool materials to consider its economic influence .

1.2738 Steel

1.2738 steel is a mold steel material produced in accordance with the German DIN standard. It has relatively superior mechanical properties and good processability among similar grades of steel.

1.2738 steel

1.2738 steel is mainly used for processing and production of hot work molds. Among them, plastic molds are the most common .It is suitable for molds requiring high smoothness such as production of hard rubber (PS) and ABS. It is suitable for large-scale, especially thicker than 400mm plastic molds. This plastic molds require uniform hardness, high toughness and good surface polishing performance. For example like large-scale molds for household appliances, TV casings, photocopier casings and instrument panels.

Some customers focus on the cost, they may purchase the not good 1.2738 steel, which results in the following problems.

The mold steel has many impurities and often encounters sand holes, cracks and pits, and the mold cannot be polished.

The hardness is not uniform, the CNC computer gong processing is difficult to walk. The machine is injured, the processing is difficult when drilling and tapping especially when deep hole drilling is used to process the water delivery hole.

When processing large molds, the hardness of the surface and the core is inconsistent, and the mold is easily deformed, which causes the mold to open and close erratically.

When high pressure injection, the mold is easy to collapse, and there are many plastic products. As a result, the life of the mold is short and the maintenance cost is high.

The 1.2738 steel provided by OTAI has good microstructure density, high hardness and uniformity, and smooth milling. The material has high purity and good mold polishing.We are the very valuable and trustable supplier who supplied for the Thyssen Krupp and Chinese ordnance industry group. We have our own creating technique through this more than 20 years rich experience.

OT718H Mould steel

OT718H mould steel is a vacuum-melted chromium-nickel-molybdenum alloy steel, which has been quenched and tempered before leaving the factory.

OT718H Mould steel

OT718H mould steel has excellent polishing performance and photolithographic properties. It also has high hardenability, good electrical workability and skin texture workability. Pre-hardened steel can be used in the mold cavity without quenching. The flange can be flame hardened, which can increase the hardness to 52HRC.

Fake OT718H mold steel has many harmful impurities and poor polishing properties. It is resulted in poor appearance of plastic products and reducing the grade of plastic products.
Inferior OT718H material has poor purity, many harmful impurities, and unstable steel structure. The instability of the mold size causes the dimensional accuracy of plastic products to decrease. It requires frequent mold repairs, increasing maintenance costs, and reducing product quality and production efficiency. The mold steel alloy is unevenly distributed. The local hardness deviation is large, which resulted in insufficient mold wear resistance. the mold is easy to collapse, and the plastic products have more burrs. It is necessary to periodically weld and repair the mold, and increase the labor of deburring. If it is used for large molds, the mold is deformed severely after processing. That will cause the mold to open and close smoothly.

Application of OT718H mould steel:
1) Large plastic molds such as home appliances, computer shells and other molds.
2) High surface finish plastic molds, such as telephones, speakers, PMMA, etc.
3) Plastic molds with a long-life production capacity of more than 500,000 molds.
4) Due to its high hardness, it can be used for wear-resistant parts such as sliders, inserts and rows of plastic molds.
5) Forming tool, compression-brake die (wan plate machine die), (flame hardening or nitriding treatment can be applied according to production needs).

Our OTAI special steel Cut down 20% composite cost for distributor, and fix miscellaneous difficulties for end user.With over 20 years’ pre-sales and after-sales special steel, we help distributors and end users to avoid all possible swindle and cheat.

34CrNiMo6 Round bar

34CrNiMo6 Round Bar and Seamless Pipe  is an important alloy engineering steel grade as per BS EN 10083-3:2006. 34CrNim06 steel has high strength, high toughness and good hardenability. EN / DIN 34CrNiMo6 alloy steel has the stability of resistance to overheating, but the white sensitivity of 34CrNiM06 is high. It also has the temper brittleness, so the weldability of 34CrNiMo6 material is poor. The steel 34CrNiMo6 needs the high temperature preheating before welding in order to eliminate the stress after welding processing.

34CrNiMo6 Steel,

34CrNiMo6 Round Bar and Seamless Pipe is used to make tools which demands good plasticity and high strength. It is usually selected to make the big size and important parts, such as heavy machinery axle,turbine shaft blade, high load of transmission parts, fasteners, crank shafts, gears, as well as heavily loaded parts for motor construction etc.

34CrNiMo6 Round Bar and Seamless Pipe Otai Special Steel is reliable to supply engineering 34CrNiMo6 steels / 1.6582 engineering alloy steels. Please tell us your detailed requirements and have the best offer soon.

34CrNiMo6 Round Bar and Seamless Pipe same as 4340 is a medium carbon, low alloy steel known for its toughness and strength in relatively large sections. AISI 4340 is also one kind of nickel chromium molybdenum steels. 4340 alloy steel is generally supplied hardened and tempered in the tensile range of 930 – 1080 Mpa. Pre hardened and tempered 4340 steels can be further surface hardened by flame or induction hardening and by nitriding. The 4340 steel has good shock and impact resistance as well as wear and abrasion resistance in the hardened condition. AISI 4340 steel properties offer good ductility in the annealed condition, allowing it to be bent or formed. Fusion and resistance welding is also possible with our 4340 alloy steel. ASTM 4340 material is often utilized where other alloy steels do not have the hardenability to give the strength required. For highly stressed parts it is excellent choice. AISI 4340 alloy steel can also be machined by all customary methods.
