DC53 is the common for metals extrusions

Which material is common use for metals extrusions

DC53 Cold Work Tool Steel Round Bars

DC53 is common use for metals extrusions

The owner of a metals extrusions factory tell me some experience, the factory is specialized in stainless steel 304 hinge, the thickness is from 2.0 to 3.0mm. He gave me 2 important information. For stamping 304 stainless steel with a thickness of 2.0-2.5, DC53 steel can be used for about 400,000 times. The metals extrusions material will start to burst. In the second case, the stamping thickness is about 3.0 and  If the punch of 304 stainless steel is used properly, it will start to burst after punching 70,000 to 80,000 times. From here, you can know that DC53 is common use for metals extrusions, and it’s very practical for metal stamping. But do remember the key is to do a good job in heat treatment.

If  you want to know more about it,Please click the link of check as below:

Heat treatment

The steel heat treatment process can be broken down into 4 segments, Hardening (quench) & Tempering.Annealing & Normalized.

Most customers only need make the Hardening (quench) & Tempering for DC53 steel aplication.

JIS DC53 tool steel Forging

Slowly and uniformly Heat the DC53 tool steel  to 700°C (1292°F),then rapidly heat the DC53 steel to 900-1040°C(1652-1904°F). After forging slowly cool down.

Hardening | quenching

Heat slowly  to 850°C(1562°F), Soak thoroughly at the temperature. the brought up to 1030°C(1886°F)oil quenching or  air cool.

Tool steel DC53 Tempering

Commonly performed Tempering is in a high Vacuum controlled convection furnace. The temper is perfect after Hardening.  conducted as soon as the part can be hand at about 45° C (120° F) to 65° C (150° F).  by High temperature tempering and hardening, hardness can reached 65 HRC MAX. common application ,we advice the Hardness no higher than 62HRC. Tempering data only for reference as below:

D2 Tool Steel- Chapter 2

D2 Tool Steel- Chapter 2

D2 die steel

D2 Tool Steel-chapter 2

To make a good working knife, you need a good piece of steel.

Besides being a talented writer, the late Butch Winter was also an enthusiastic hunter, with what was once the largest privately owned collection of custom knives in America. When Butch wrote a published article stating he didn’t care much for D2 tool steel because knives made with it tended to either be too hard or too soft, it made an impression.

Integral drop-point hunter with cast D2 steel blade and cocobolo handles by Robert Fisher. Knife style is scapel-inspired.

In the years preceding his death, Butch found knives like Bob Dozier’s, which were made with D2 steel, to be to his liking. Dozier’s D2-bladed knives have set a performance standard for years. You can buy fancier D2 knives or less-expensive D2 knives. But, when you want a knife that can cut as well as any made with D2 alloy, Dozier Knives continues to be the comparison standard.

Butch Winter sagely stated there are no bad cutlery steels, although some might be better-suited for certain applications than others. My personal experience with knives made with D2-steel blades has been that the steel is capable of providing a performance range that stretches from good (in the top 50%) to phenomenal (in the top 1%).

How does a buyer determine where the knife is on that scale? It’s a valid question, but one for which I don’t have the definitive answer. I do have a better-than-average comprehensive explanation for why that definitive answer is elusive.

D2 STEEL MAKEUP

The chemical content for D2 tool steel is 1.4-1.6% carbon, 0.60% manganese, 11.00-13.00% chromium, 0.30% nickel, 1.10% vanadium, and 0.70-1.20% molybdenum. The primary use of this steel is for making stamping dies that cut steel pieces out of other, softer steels. The actual percentage of D2 tool steel produced by steel makers that winds up in use as knife blades is quite small.

While I have no evidence that distribution of available product might prejudice how steel makers provide the D2 steel they make, as a chemist, I can tell you that all D2 steel is not identical. Every production lot has allowable fluctuations in the component contents. This means that it’s possible for the variables to stack in a way that may either result in an ordinary serviceable knife or in an extraordinarily good knife. And the result may not be evident until after a knife is finished.

Bob Dozier told me during a telephone conversation that, once in a blue moon, he has to send a shipment of D2 steel back to the steel supplier after heat treatment of the first blades when, after testing, they did not give the results he expects from his proprietary heat-treatment procedures.

Not all knifemakers are as conscientious or demanding about quality control in their heat-treating as Bob Dozier. Every time we talk, he stresses that it’s consistency and uniformity of heat treatment that’s the primary factor in his knives performing in a superior way, knife after knife. Bob confirms that to make a good working knife, you need a good piece of steel.

D2 Tool Steel

D2 Tool Steel

d2-tool-steel

D2 Tool Steel

D2 Tool Steel

D2 Tool Steel is a versatile high-carbon, high-chromium, air-hardening tool steel that is characterized by a relatively high attainable hardness and numerous, large, chromium-rich alloy carbides in the microstructure. These carbides provide good resistance to wear from sliding contact with other metals and abrasive materials. Although other steels with improved toughness or improved wear resistance are available, D2 provides an effective combination of wear resistance and toughness, tool performance, price, and a wide variety of product forms.

APPLICATIONS: Rolls, punches, dies for blanking, forming, trimming, and thread rolling, shear knives, food-processing knives, and gauges.

Every production lot has allowable fluctuations in the component contents. This means that it’s possible for the variables to stack in a way that may either result in an ordinary serviceable knife or in an extraordinarily good knife. And the result may not be evident until after a knife is finished.

Every time we talk, he stresses that it’s consistency and uniformity of heat treatment that’s the primary factor in his knives performing in a superior way, knife after knife. Bob confirms that to make a good working knife, you need a good piece of steel.

DON’T JUDGE D2 STEEL BY ITS LOOKS

You can’t tell how a knife cuts just by looking at it — you have to cut something with it. I perform cutting tests in materials that have proven to be hard to cut for all but the very best knives. I also do side-by-side cutting comparisons while doing daily cutting chores to distinguish which knives cut with the fewest limitations.

For instance, the D2 knives that made the fewest cuts on rope using only 1-inch of blade, and comparable edge geometry, still accomplished enough slices to be on the high end of “good” by my evaluation criterion. The longest-cutting knives will cut 10 times longer between sharpening, than the knives with the least cutting endurance.

I can take the two very best D2-bladed rope cutters I’ve tested and compare them by cutting the neck off a plastic bottle. One blade can accomplish this with a single slice; the other blade requires 15 slices. In this case, the different heat-treatments achieve different carbide grain sizes, and the larger carbide grain apparently cuts this plastic better than the nano-grain carbide, which is 10 times smaller.

SO, WHAT KIND OF KNIFE DOES D2 STEEL MAKE?

It varies from good to extraordinary, depending on the production lot of steel, the way the steel is heat-treated, and the way the blade edge is beveled and finished. The knife owner can control the last two variables, but the others are established invisibly before the knife is purchased.

The only way to know how good your knife is, is to test it with repeatable cutting tests. It’s like accuracy-testing a firearm. Experience may indicate that a certain type of gun usually performs well. However, the way it performs can depend on the ammo used, and preferences will vary from individual gun to individual gun.

Otai Special Steel company picnic in the winter on 6th,Dec,2019

Otai Steel  foreign sales department completed 2019 annual  sales target in November. At the same time, Domestic sales team also created the highest performance in November, especially cash orders value exceeded 100,0000. Both foreign sales team and domestic sales department organized a Winter Picnic together in Folly lake.

carbon round bar

The winter picnic of Otai steel sales team

Otai Special steel  HR department prepared the menu according to our feedback of food in advance, then they arranged ingredients and sticks. We drove to Folly Lake Lodge on a Friday afternoon and started our winter picnic .

This is a lively & relaxing banquet. The farm is beautiful, just the sunshine, the breeze not dry, flowers are blooming . We are smile, and really want to stay here all the day ,andlose track of the minutes .

Otai steel team

After HR communicated with the owner of farm, everyone worked together to sharpen our skill, washing vegetables, cutting food material, processing seafood, preparing cookware, and preparing sauces and so on  .

Steel man

I can’t cooking except waitting .

As you know, everyone can know eating well, but not means all of them know how to cooking . Just like the Otai steel sales team know how to sell the alloy steel, carbon steel ,Tooling steel . They know what is 1.2311 ,how about the hardness of 1.2311 after heat treatment . However, it not means each sales know how to handle the steel cutting machine , how to use the Chemical composition test machine ,and how to do the steel UT test . Otai’s QC director know to handle the QC process well, but he don’t know how to cook the beef . Our QC know the hardness of tooling steel well, and also know the temperature of heat treatment well ,but he don’t know how to control the temperature & time for cooking .

When the cooking process starting , we suddenly found that our purchasing manager and sales manager are an good chef .For me ,I can not do more things for cooking except waitting to eat. But for Otai’s Chef , all the food material being different delicious food after cooking by their hand .

It is a little pity that we did not have a group photo finanlly because the sunshine goes down so fast .

Now matter what ,Dec.,12, 2019 . It is the sweet-moment belong to Otai steel team .

Are there any different quality levels on material DC53 in the Chinese market?

Material DC53  is a high-strength, high-toughness cold-work die steel, and the alloy composition is Cr8Mo2VSi. It has a medium carbon content, effectively avoiding the carbide accumulation of high-carbon high-chromium cold-working die steel.

Material DC53

Generally, the cryogenic treatment can be omitted and it can be maintained under strong hardness Higher toughness. The material DC53 overcomes the weakness of SKD11’s insufficient high temperature tempering hardness and toughness, and will completely replace SKD11 in general and precision molds.

Material DC53, the content of disclosed the alloy components, the manufacturers are not much different. But due to different alloy elements, steelmaking equipment, purification processes, forging processes and heat treatment processes. The final abrasion resistance and chipping resistance are very different. And the service life is very different, maybe two or three times. There are 4 levels of DC53 on the domestic market.
1) “National Standard” DC53 from scrap steel refurbishment;
2) “EAF” DC53 from scrap steel refurbishment;
3) National standard EAF DC53;
4) National standard ESR DC53,

Can material DC53 be used for stainless steel stamping die punch? Stainless steel stamping die steel, someone has used Cr12MoV, SKD11, D2, SKH-51 … and so on. All encountered cracking problems. DC53 die steel is the preferred die steel for stainless steel stamping dies. Because of the anti-cracking performance of DC53 die steel, it is the better steel in cold work die steel. Of course, DC53, which has poor purity and poor heat treatment, is also easily cracked. This also makes many people think that this material stamped stainless steel is also easy to crack. In fact no matter from the economic point or the wear resistance, comprehensive consideration, DC53 for stamping stainless steel is an ideal choice. The key is to choose material DC53 with high purity and good heat treatment process.

In particular, the Chinese domestic market is a mixed bag. People who do not understand this market are more likely to step on the pit. So that is why most overseas customers would like to choose from OTAI Special steel, as OTAI is with over 20 years’ pre-sales and after-sales special steel, we help distributors and end users to avoid all possible swindle and cheat.OTAI undertakes every order to end and solve customer’s problem without any hesitate on responsibility.

What steel material is AISI H13?

AISI H13 belongs to hot work mold steel, which is mainly used for die-casting mold, extrusion mold, wear-resistant plastic mold.

AISI H13

What is the AISI H13? The customer who produced the die-casting mold asked me that he had previously purchased AISI H13 from other supplier to produce aluminum alloy die-casting molds, and sometimes cracks occurred at 3000 molds, and 20,000 cracks were scrapped. And what happened on the H13? Where it should be applied on?

The huge price difference range on AISI H13 mold steel makes the purchasers confusion on the price and quality in such mixed market. How to distinguish the H13 mold steel from the different quality grade?
1) Non-standard H13 mold steel made by the small private company
2) National standard H13 die steel made by the small private company
3) ESR H13 mold steel made by the small private company
4) National standard H13 die steel
5) ESR H13 mold steel
6) ESR + ultra-refined H13 mold steel;
7) Atmosphere protection ESR H13 mold steel;

Steel alloys made from iron ore steel have less impurities. Advanced steelmaking equipment can effectively remove impurities. The steelmaking process has many steps and rigorous, which can ensure the stability of the mold steel quality. The steel mills that can meet these conditions are all large state-owned steel mills. The corresponding AISI H13 tool steel grades are on grade 4, 5, 6, and 7. These grades quality mold steel has high price, stable quality and long mold life.

Consequently, it is extremely important for selecting the most reliable supplier instead of focusing on the price. Our OTAI is very proud on this special steel field. As we are with the open and sincere attitudes on the cooperation. We provide the obtainable, affordable and the most important- reliable tool steel for our dear customers everywhere. That is why we got the firm and loyal trust from all the customers.

Carbon steel price of C45 hot rolled plate (Q3-2019)

In the part one article, we learned about Carbon steel price of  Q1 and Q2 ,2019.

In the first half of the year, The carbon steel price continued to increase slowly. For example, the price of carbon steel C45 (1045 )  ,which it is increased from 585USD from January to 636USD in June.

Now,let us know some information of  Q3 carbon steel price .

The following table is the price record of carbon steel (C45 plate):

Q3 Carbon steel price :

Sept.3-19 575

According to the Graph and tables, we found that the price of carbon steel continued to decline duing  Q3 quarter (The rate of  price go down  6.5%).

The Reason of Carbon Steel Price go down during Q3 .

The main reason for the decline in prices : the sufficient supply of the market.
Carbon steel experienced a shortage of output in the first quarter, and kept strong demand in the second quarter. In Q3,  Steel mills releasae the msaa inventory to stock market. The increase in inventory quantity is greater than the actual demand, and prices have started to decline.

The annual environmental protection inspections and steel plant equipment overhauls were successfully completed. The external factors that affect the stable production capacity of steel plants have been reduced. The production capacity of steel plants in the entire market has a stable and benign production expectation.

Relative to the decline in the US dollar price, there is another influential factor: the increase in the US dollar / renminbi exchange rate, which has caused the US dollar price of carbon steel to fall by 2-3 USD / Ton year-on-year.
